School: Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (at Virginia Tech), 2007

Special Interests: Dogs, cats, pocket pets, and many other animals that come in the door! I am also concerned with public health issues, conservation medicine and the human-companion animal bond. I enjoy swimming, biking and good food (mostly made by my gourmet cook husband!). I was a human critical care nurse for my first career. I also work part-time at The Marine Mammal Center, a rehab hospital for sick and injured marine mammals (as well as a center of marine science research and education).

Pets: Rio the mixed breed (lab/boxer/other!) dog that loves the water and the snow.

I am so happy to be back in the Bay Area! My husband and I returned to California after I finished at Virginia Tech, after a month working and vacationing in East Africa. I am finally living my dream as a vet! I earned my B.S. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland. My first career was in critical care nursing and cardiac surgery, including international experience in England.

I volunteered at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA, and several spay and neuter clinics, before deciding to return to school and pursue veterinary medicine. I completed a wildlife internship in 2004 at the Island Wildlife Natural Care Center on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada, and a 2005 Summer Oncology Fellowship studying environmental toxicology. I also did externships with the US Navy Marine Mammal Program, and the Oregon Zoo in 2007. In my free time I enjoy good food and wine, traveling with my husband to far off places, trying other languages, snowboarding, playing volleyball, hiking, and biking in Golden Gate Park.
